Leprosy News from Kindwitwi – June 2022

For this instalment of the Newsletter, we asked the team in Kindwitwi to share with us the story of the Ward, which is one of the most important projects that your donations continue to support.  In their own words, this is what the team told us!

Kindwitwi Leprosy Ward was built when father Robin Lamburn the Anglican Church Missionary from England when he came to Kindwitwi 1963. During this time he was in his work of serving the Christians of Utete as one of Masasi Mtwara area where he was serving as Priest. Father Robin Lamburn found leprosy patients when he was passing on the road of Dar es Salaam to Utete where Kindwitwi is just nearby the road to Utete Town. Father Lamburn, when he saw people of Kindwitwi suffering from Leprosy disease, he felt sympathy and wanted to help them. Father Robin decided to request Rufiji District Council to assist these Leprosy patients of Kindwitwi.

Life on the Ward is doing well. So far, we have one patient who receiving cooked food, others are receiving their food ration and cook themselves at their homes. We have 10 people under full care support. They are happy because they are assured their life. They thank donors for their funding.

Their daily food is B/F tea and Maandazi (doughnut) or chapatti. Lunch is Ugali (Maize porridge) fish or beans or vegetables, dinner is Ugali or Wali (rice) with vegetables, beans or fish and fruits. They are weaving and keeping chickens.
