Outreach continues in COVID

It is heartening to hear, despite the challenges of COVID, our outreach service has continued, and our teams are still able to help and support those who have contracted leprosy.

Here’s what Salum, our talented shoemaker told us:

It has been very challenging to carry out our usual outreach work because of the restrictions that the government has had to impose because of Covid-19.

Despite this, we have been able to continue to identify people that have contracted leprosy in the region.

Between July and September Dr. Nnally and the team diagnosed 2 men and 1 woman with leprosy and that they had a disability grade of level 1.

According to the World Health Organization’s classifications, this means that the patients have numbness in their hands and feet, eye problems but vision not severely affected as well as scars or “patches” that discolour the skins.

All three patients have now started the necessary treatment and are expected to make a full recovery.
